DreamThieves“His attention snapped up as Ronan Lynch stepped out of the old factory… Everything about him was a warning: If this snake bit you, you had no one to blame but yourself.”

First off, don’t read this book if you haven’t read the first book in The Raven Cycle, The Raven Boys. Technically, this is a sequel, but it reads more like it’s just one long book broken apart. You will be lost if you don’t read The Raven Boys first, but it’s 100% worth it to read both!

If you HAVE read the first one and just need a recap, check out the awesome site Recaptains! They’ve got great breakdowns of series books so you don’t have to go back and reread the earlier books when the new ones come out. Maggie Stiefvater even wrote the Raven Boys recap for them!

The Dream Thieves is really Ronan’s book. The search for Glendower continues, but takes a bit of a backseat to the development of Ronan’s powers to take things out of his dreams (remember in The Raven Boys when he says he took his pet bird Chainsaw out of his dreams? Yeah…that was true). Both Ronan and Adam come into their own as major players in the world of Cabeswater, but they must first prove that they can live up to their roles in the quest for Glendower. So many spoiler possibilities here, but I’ll stop myself! Just remember, it’s hard to trust anything in a world where time turns back in on itself, people can take dream objects into the real world, and magical places have their own agendas.

If you’re a fan of fantasy quests with eccentric, bold, and complex characters, you have to check out this series. Maggie Stiefvater’s writing is so intricate that once I finished this book I immediately wanted to go back and read The Raven Boys, and then read The Dream Thieves again. It’s just one of those series you can read over and over and always find something new you missed. A great series by a talented writer.
