Book Review: Itch by Simon Mayo

Itch“For two years now, Itch had considered himself an element hunter, and it had slowly taken over his life.”

Itchingham Lofte collects the Periodic Table of Elements. You know, a little hydrogen here, some iron there, even a little phosphorus and chromium. He’s collected some things from around his house, but many come from a wandering dealer whose elements come from who-knows-where. It’s one of these elements that causes Itch’s life to change from element hunting to being hunted for an element, because his most recent acquisition is an unknown, but dangerous and powerful, element that governments, corporations, and even terrorists would kill to get their hands on…unless Itch can stop them first.

My review: Do you like adventure? Are you into science? Are you dying for a book that’s free from romance? Itch is the book for you! Before finding his mystery element, the mishaps Itch suffered because of his hobby were limited to burning off his eyebrows or getting his class sick. But as soon as that rock comes into his life, it’s crazy town! A teacher reveals his hidden malevolence, a corporation sends their goons after Itch, and he’s got to figure out a way to get rid of the rock forever. This is different than any other book out there. (Who knew element hunting was even a thing?!) If you want to read something unique, adventurous, and at times harrowing, check out Itch: The Explosive Adventures of an Element Hunter by Simon Mayo.
