Book Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

fifthwave“I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing…Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity’s last war, then I am the battlefield”

After the aliens came, humanity was decimated by four waves of devastation engineered by our enemies. With seven billion dead by the end of the third wave, the fourth wave was what broke us. Because when aliens can invade humanity, look like humans, and kill us from within, how can we trust even other survivors? How do you go on? How do you face the unimagined horror of the fifth wave?

My review: This science fiction powerhouse was one of the most anticipated books of the summer, for good reason. The fact that anyone could be an alien passing for human makes the stakes high for every character, from the girl whose quest to be reunited with her younger brother keeps her from giving up, to the soldier forced into basic training for a resistance army, to the invader struggling to hold on to the humanity of the person he invaded.

If you like sci-fi thrillers, body-snatchers, or unique alien invasion stories, this one is perfect for you. But it’s also great for fans of stories featuring military training, sharpshooting, and watching people react to brutal circumstances beyond their control. You’ve got to check out The Fifth Wave and see what everyone’s talking about.
