Book Review: WARP: The Reluctant Assassin by Eoin Colfer

ReluctantAssassin“The cab pulled up outside…and disgorged a very unlikely couple onto the street. One seventeen-year-old FBI agent in Lycra, and an assassin’s apprentice from the nineteenth century…”

The night had finally come. Riley, an orphan plucked from the streets of Victorian London and raised by an assassin, was faced with the choice of killing his first victim or likely being killed himself. But the mark wasn’t just any gentleman, and as soon as Riley touched him, a wormhole opened up and sucked him into present-day London, where he was found by teenage FBI agent-in-training Chevron. Unfortunately, Riley wasn’t the only one the wormhole brought forward in time; his benefactor has come through as well, and in the process gained the knowledge he needs to be an even better killer. Can Riley and Chevie outwit this most deadly of enemies?

My review:
This book is crazy in a good way – open it up and just be prepared to go along for the ride. Along with time tunnels, quantum foam, and transversible wormholes, you’ve got Victorian assassins, crime lords, present-day residents hiding in the past, secret meetings via wormhole, transferred consciousness, and tons more going on in this book! It’s an exciting action-adventure with a great villain and two clever teens trying to stop him from messing with the past and the future. WARP Book 1: The Reluctant Assassin is by Eoin Colfer, who also wrote the Artemis Fowl series, so if you like that series give this a try. Or hey, if you’re like me and have never read Artemis Fowl, try it anyway!
