“We had five full days in Peru. Five days to search 1,500 miles of coastline and find the Island of Thieves. Oh, and we didn’t have a plan… What could possibly go wrong?”
Tom Trelawney thinks he’s staying with his Uncle Harvey in New York for a week while his parents are on vacation. But Uncle Harvey has other plans, and soon Tom is joining him on a treasure hunt through Peru, dodging murderous mobsters and gun wielding thugs on their way to find a long-lost treasure on the Island of Thieves. Will they find the treasure and make good their escape or will their enemies take their gold and their lives?
My Review: Action, adventure, danger and buried treasure – what more do you need for a perfect summer read? Harvey is basically a professional liar whose past catches up with him just as he and Tom enter Peru on their treasure hunt, which of course complicates their plans and brings them up against a notorious criminal who has his own plans for the treasure. Give Island of Thieves a try if you like adventure, exotic locales and nonstop action.
