Book Review: The Prisoner of Snowflake Falls by John Lekich

“If you are thinking, Boy, that Henry Holloway is turning over a whole new leaf, you would be wrong.”

Henry is pretty considerate for a thief. He never takes something of sentimental value, always makes sure the mark can afford it, and even does a few chores while he’s in the house. He’s living in a nice treehouse in a nice neighborhood whose absentminded and trusting residents provide plenty of opportunities for a little larceny.

Until the day Henry slips up, gets caught, and is sent to Snowflake Falls for “rehabilitation.” Living with a family, forced to work a paper route, and surrounded by strange people who all seem to be keeping tabs on him is not Henry’s idea of paradise, but he’s dealing ok. Until the day someone from his old life shows up in Snowflake Falls and Henry must decide who he truly wants to be.

My Review: I liked Henry’s quirky criminal mind. How he felt bad taking money from people who were saving up for something, but at the same time he’d carefully plan out how to get past his neighbor’s army of cats in order to infiltrate his pantry full of canned food. He just never seemed cut out for the criminal life and Snowflake Falls gave him a chance to give an average life a try. Pick this one up for the funny characters, including Henry’s uncle’s band of small-time crooks, his unique Snowflake Falls family, and his monster-truck loving classmate George. The Prisoner of Snowflake Falls is now available at the library.
