The Shadow Project

 “We’re code-named the Shadow Project…”

Danny grinned at him. “Now you’ve told me all this, won’t you have to kill me?”

“Only if you don’t agree to join us,” said Sir Roland without cracking a smile.

Danny Lipman chose the wrong house to rob.  What he thought was just another rich guy’s poorly protected home turned out to be the headquarters of a secret government agency known as the Shadow Project. Soon Danny is recruited as an agent for the project, which uses teens with a talent for astral projection to spy on our enemies.  With their bodies safe in England, they send their consciousness to faraway locations to help fight terrorism, but their greatest enemy may not be in this world at all, but the shadowy second world they travel.

My Review: Action, fast pace, and a quick-thinking, wise cracking main character? Exactly what I was looking for and exactly what I got.  Finding out the extent of the world that can be traveled by those having out-of-body experiences was unexpectedly awesome.  The book kind of took a turn the middle, adding a much more mystical/supernatural edge to what had been a more or less straight-up spy plot.  It threw me for a loop, but keep reading!  The ending is exciting and full of surprises, setting it up for the sequel, The Doomsday Box, which is also available at the library.

Check out The Shadow Project by Herbie Brennan if you liked the movie Inception, can’t get enough spy stories or if you’re intrigued by the author’s note saying that he has had out-of-body experiences.
