Clarity by Kim Harrington

“In Eastport, a tourist town on Cape Cod, lives a family of freaks. My family. I’m a psychic. My brother’s a medium. My mother’s a telepath. Tourists love us. Townies scorn us.”

Clarity Fern, or Clare, can see what happened to an object just by touching it, even when she doesn’t want to, like the time she grabbed her boyfriend’s coat and saw that he’d been with another girl. Yeah, a gift like Clare’s can definitely be a curse.

This summer, though, she can finally use her power for something other than giving tourists a thrill.  A girl has been murdered in Eastport, and Clare thinks her powers can help solve the mystery.  But soon the suspects begin to pile up and Clare wonders whether the murderer could be her former enemy, her new crush, or even her own brother.

My Review: Based on the ethereal looking cover, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Clarity, but Clare was a down-to-earth girl with ex-boyfriend troubles, parental expectations, a tough attitude to keep the psychic-haters at bay, and enough pride and good-heartedness to want to use her powers to help solve the murder. Throughout the book I had several theories on who the killer might be and why they committed the murder, but none of my guesses were right!  Oh well, maybe some of you mystery fans out there will figure it out.  Check out Clarity by Kim Harrington if you want a fun, quick read featuring teens with supernatural gifts and a juicy mystery.
