When Love Goes Wrong

It happens so slowly, you may not even notice. Your boyfriend seems great – attentive, protective, everything you could want. But what happens when attentive turns into controlling, and protective transforms into possessive, jealous or even abusive?  Check out these two books about love gone terribly wrong…

Bitter End by Jennifer Brown
When Alex falls for the charming new boy at school, Cole, at first she’s blissfully happy, but as the months pass, Alex can no longer ignore Cole’s small put-downs, pinches, or increasingly violent threats. As Alex struggles to come to terms with the sweet boyfriend she fell in love with and the boyfriend whose “love” she no longer recognizes, she is forced to choose — between her “true love” and herself.

But I Love Him by Amanda Grace
Within just one year, Ann transforms from a happy A-student, track star, and popular senior to a solitary, abused woman whose love for the emotionally-scarred Connor has taken away everything–even herself.  An excerpt:

“Sometimes at night, I wake up and stare at the heart for hours. I think of how I collected each piece from the beach, how I glued it all together into one big sculpture. I wonder if Connor realizes what it means, that he’ll always have a piece of me no matter what happens. Each piece of glass is another piece of myself that I gave to him.  It’s too bad I didn’t keep any pieces for myself.”

“Bitter End” and “But I Love Him” are now available at the library.
