Dark Life by Kat Falls

Imagine the world has been submerged and the remaining Topside cities are cramped, dirty and constantly blasted by an unforgiving sun.  Now slip under the water, dive down, and discover Benthic Territory, an experimental colony where Ty lives on his family’s underwater farm, waiting for the day he can strike out on his own.

When Ty meets Gemma, a Topside girl searching for her brother in Benthic Territory, he knows he can’t leave her to her own devices, especially when the Seablite Gang is roaming the territory, stealing, destroying, and maybe even killing.

Can Ty help Gemma without bringing the Seablite Gang to his doorstep?  Do the deep water residents, or Dark Life, really have special gifts?  Find out in “Dark Life” by Kat Falls, now available at the library.

My review:  “Dark Life” feels like an undersea western – complete with homesteaders, prospectors, and outlaws. The remote location of the territory and pioneering spirit of the settlers really added to the Wild West feeling.

I loved the details of undersea life, especially the descriptions of Ty’s home, and the wonders of living underwater made me wonder why the Topsiders weren’t more enthusiastic about undersea living.  Although the book didn’t seem to set itself up for a sequel, I would love to dive back into Ty’s world for more adventures.  Check it out today!
