The Web of Titan

I just finished The Web of Titan, Dom Testa’s sequel to last year’s The Comet’s Curse. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, check out my review here.

The Galahad’s crew is finally reaching Saturn’s moon Titan, where they must retrieve a mysterious pod orbiting the moon.  Whether the pod was purposely left behind by the crew of a previous mission, abandoned, or sabotaged is up for debate – most of the records regarding the pod are Top Secret.

The 251 teenage crew members of the Galahad will have to prove yet again that they are up for any challenge they might face on their way to the hopefully hospitable planet Eos.  No one could have expected they’d have to deal with a cryogenically frozen cat, crew members’ eyes turning orange, or mysterious energy pulses that could be coming from Titan itself.  Not to mention the fact that being uber-smart, prepared and driven won’t stop a 16-year-old ship’s captain’s obsessing over her crush.

My review: If you love Triana, Gap, Bon, Channy, Lita, and of course the ship’s computer Roc, but want to meet more of the other crew members this time around, don’t worry.  There are a few new faces, including Alaskan artist and math wizard Hannah, who plays a major role in the book. Characters like Hannah are a big part of why I enjoy this series.  The crew is in a completely bizarre situation – a mission to another planet – and yet, you can identify with their worries, talents, hopes and obsessions, so you root for them to succeed.  Will they escape from the web of Titan unscathed? There’s only one way to find out –  give The Web of Titan a try.  It’s on library shelves today.
