The Karma Club

Maddy Kasparkova’s boyfriend Mason, was perfect.  So perfect that his profile (sent in by Maddy, of course!) was chosen for Contempo Girl magazine’s “Meet My Boyfriend” column.  Unfortunately, Mason wasn’t her boyfriend much longer – not after Maddy finds him kissing another girl.  How could this be happening to her?!

It’s not as if her friends are lucky in love, either; they were betrayed by their exes, too.  And the worst part of the whole situation is that none of the boys ever had to pay for what they did.  Karma was letting them off the hook!  Well, not if Maddy has anything to say about it.  She’s taking Karma into her own hands, and making sure that what goes around really comes back around.

My Review: With chapters like “Operation Butter Face,” “The Legend of the Great Granny Panty Bandit” and “Bathroom Stall Confessions,” you can tell this book is aiming for funny, and it succeeds.  I couldn’t help but laugh at the creative ways Maddy and her friends went about “rebalancing the Karma” of the guys who did them wrong.  Honestly, who hasn’t wished that someone who’s awful to other people would finally get what’s coming to them?

But the book isn’t all laughs.  Sure, payback can seem fun, but  sometimes Maddy’s schemes seemed a little harsh and, I admit, I was glad that she eventually got her own taste of Karma.

Overall, I enjoyed the book.  It’s a fast, funny read great for a summer weekend.  “The Karma Club” by Jessica Brody is now available at the library.
