Naruto Nation

Good news, Naruto fans!  Viz has announced that Naruto anime and manga will now be released in the U.S.  much closer to their Japanese release dates.

“Anime episodes will begin streaming in the U.S. on the Naruto.com Website within days of broadcast in Japan; manga releases will appear in the U.S. within months of the Japanese volume’s release.” [icv2.com]

In order to catch up, there will be 11, yes eleven, new volumes of the Naruto manga released between February and April 2009.  After that, they’ll be released roughly once every 3 months.

We’ve got the most recently released volume, number 32, on the shelf now.

Manga Mania

Make candy sushi, be the first to read our new manga, and watch “Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow.”  This program is tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m.  It’s a great chance for you to suggest what manga series you want the library to buy, and I’ve got a few books to give away, too, courtesy of Go!Comi, so don’t miss it!

See you then,
Katie

What’s up next week

Hope everyone’s having a good winter break this week!  Don’t forget, the library is closed Monday and Tuesday for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Next Wednesday, January 2, is the Day of Manga.  I’ve got a bunch of new manga ready to be checked out – come to the large meeting room from 2 to 4 for first dibs on the new stuff.  Bring your favorite manga, or come ready to let me know what manga you want the library to buy.

It’s going to be a pretty low key thing, just having some snacks, reading manga, and hanging out.  Hope you manga fans can make it.

Lucky You

Here’s the new bulletin board (center) with all the upcoming events for teens.
Now there are new books on either side of it – twice as much space for new books!

Can’t find the manga?  I moved it so manga fans can have their own space.  Manga is now on these wire shelves on the far right of the Y.A. book shelves.

Enjoy!

Blame it on the turkey

Ok, I admit it! I haven’t blogged in a week. I think all that turkey crept into my brain and made me sluggish this week, so my normally sparkling blog wit has suffered. BUT, where have you lazy bums been? Not leaving me hilarious comments, there’s where not!

Anyway… I will tell you what I HAVE been doing for you this week, my loyal blog reader. (Ha ha, I have more than one reader…right? right?)

The Y.A. Corner of the library now has twice as much shelving for new books. What have I ordered lately, you ask? “Slam” by Nick Hornby and “The Luxe” by Anna Godbersen are two that come to mind.

We also have new shelving just for manga, and I have bought plenty of books for the upcoming Day of Manga, but you’ll have to come to the Day of Manga to be the first to see those.

Also, look for the new events board in the Y.A. Corner, with details about the book group, Teen Advisory Group, and other teen programs at the library.

Pictures to prove all this will be coming soon…

mmm… manga

You guys know that I’ve been trying to buy more and more manga, right?  Because, judging by the way they check out like mad, you do.

I’m planning a Day of Manga on Wednesday, January 2 from 2:00 to 4:00, and I’d love to have more new manga for you to look at that day.  Any thoughts? Suggestions? Demands?!  Let me know what you want us to buy and I’ll do my best.

More info on the Day of Manga coming soon…

Newbie no more

I’m back from my first Anime and Manga Convention, and it was a crazy fun experience.  I have to say, I wasn’t familiar with anime fandom, but it is an amazing group of people.  Check out some of these photos of costumes seen at the con, and you’ll get an idea of what I’m talking about.  (More pictures after the page break.)

Don’t forget, if I drop the ball and don’t order a great new manga series you’re dying to read, let me know.

Anime Central

So, this weekend I’m going to Anime Central’s 10th annual Anime and Manga Convention here in Chicago.  I’m a newbie to the world of the con, so anybody out there have tips for me?  Anything you’re dying to have me buy for the library’s collection?  Now’s the time to let me know!

Katie (who, before you ask, will not be going in costume)

New graphic novels

Our new graphic novels are checking out like mad, so get in and grab one while you can.  Don’t forget to email or comment us with the titles you want!  Here’s a sample of what’s new:

Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 1
Hiromu Arakawa

As young boys, Edward & Alphonse Elric dabbled in alchemy to try to resurrect their dead mother. As a result, Ed lost one arm and one leg, while Al lost his entire body and had his spirit sealed into a suit of armor. Now, they are searching for the fabled Philosopher’s Stone to restore what they’ve lost.

The Dreaming Vol. 1
Queenie Chan

When twin sisters Amber and Jeanie are accepted into an exclusive  boarding school, they soon find that the school’s halls harbor a terrible secret: students have been known to wander into the surrounding bushlands and vanish…without a trace! No one knows where they went–or why. But as Amber and Jeanie are about to learn, the key to the school’s dark past may lie in the world of their dreams…

Enjoy!
