Bold and Pungent

dipBelieve it or not, today is Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day!  Love garlic? Sauerkraut? Curry? Today’s the perfect day to pour it on!

In honor of this day, here’s my own recipe for some tasty, easy taco dip:

Take 1 pkg. of cream cheese stirred together with 1 pkg. of taco seasoning and spread it on a plate.  Top it with refried black beans, chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a mixture of half salsa and half ranch dressing.   To make it extra bold and pungent, add some crushed red pepper flakes, tabasco or fiery hot salsa.  Enjoy!

Have a great weekend,

Happy Earth Day!

earthdayBe kind to the planet today, because April 22 marks the 39th annual celebration of Earth Day.

Check out National Geographic’s Earth Day Facts page, about how Earth Day first came about, how it’s evolved, and what people are doing to celebrate.

Try the Environmental Protection Agency’s Earth Day resources, or find out information about a specific enviro subject by visiting earthday.gov’s “Learn about issues” pages.

Be sure to have a little fun by taking earthday.net’s Ecological Footprint Quiz.  Create your eco-avatar and figure out how many Earths it would take to provide enough resources for us, if everyone lived like you.  Questions about the quiz? Go to the Footprint FAQ.

The answers to the quiz may surprise you - I tried it and I guess I am not as green as I thought!  It would apparently take 4.4 Earths to support humankind if everyone lived like me.  According to the quiz, I should carpool/take public transportation more, and make an effort to buy more items that come in recycled packaging.  If you take the quiz, let me know how many Earths it would take if everyone lived like you.

Happy Earth Day,
Katie

Happy Thanksgiving

Here’s some fun facts about Thanksgiving from National Geographic’s website:

  • The largest pumpkin pie ever made weighed 2,020 pounds (916.25 kilograms).
  • A ripe cranberry will bounce.
  • All turkeys and chickens have wishbones.
  • Canadians celebrate their own Thanksgiving every October.
  • Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863.
  • The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was held in 1924.
  • Hope you have lots to be thankful for!

    Enjoy Good Old Days!

If you’re out enjoying Good Old Days this weekend, be sure to stop by the library for the Library Friends’ Booksale.  Books are just a dollar for hardcovers and fifty cents for paperbacks.    Or, come by from 9 – 4 Saturday and pick up some snacks at our bake sale, located at the entrance to the meeting room.

If you’ve ever wanted revenge on your friendly neighborhood librarian, now’s your chance!  Our library director will be in the dunk tank on Saturday from noon to 1:00, and if you dunk him, you’ll get a coupon for $1 off fines.

Want to know what else is going on around town this weekend?  Visit the Good Old Days website now!

I’ll post about this next week…

It’s Fight Procrastination Day, so I am actually going to blog now instead of telling myself ‘Oh, I can blog anytime,’ and then not posting here for a week.  That’s my Fight Procrastination Day resolution, people!  Blogging more frequently about different kinds of things, not only library-related stuff, but funny, random, interesting stuff.

Know a site that cracks you up?  An event you’re taking part in that you want people to know about?  Email me or comment me, and it could show up on the blog.  Since I’m not procrastinating anymore (really!) I’ll post your stuff asap.

What are you going to do that you’ve been putting off?  Take action today and you’ll be glad you did!  What’s the point of agonizing about something day in day out when you could take action now and get it over with? Need to start a paper for school?  Ask a friend why you don’t seem to really be friends anymore? Tell your parents you want to be a stuntman, not a lawyer?  Do it, man!  There’s no better time than today.
